When Elon Musk announced the Tesla Semi at the end of last year, industry observers pointed out that Tesla is notorious for production delays, and predicted that the all-electric semi truck would not see the light of day in 2019 as promised by Musk. However, this week saw the first two trucks on their maiden journeys, delivering batteries from the company’s Gigafactory in the Nevada mountains to its car factory in California.

Recent research has found that South Africa’s broadband prices are among the highest in the world. The scorecard compares the entry-level, median, and average residential broadband tariffs in 80 countries, and South Africa was ranked 65th. According to the report, Venezuela, Russia, and the Ukraine have the most affordable broadband services, while Mauritania, Bolivia, and Oman are the most expensive.

Honey is seen by many as the healthier alternative to sugar, but recent exposés have revealed that this is not necessarily the case in South Africa. The recent ConsumerTalk feature on CapeTalk and M-Net’s Carte Blanche have drawn attention to the fact that manufacturers of ‘fake’ honey are scamming South African consumers and threatening the livelihood of the entire sector.

After a four-year investigation, the Competition Commission has released a report that shows that South Africa’s private health-care market is uncompetitive and needs tougher regulation. It also found that South Africans are paying too much for private healthcare. This will come as no surprise to anyone who has used private healthcare, which is dominated by three hospital operators and the same number of medical aids.

When Sanral started repairing the N2 between Grahamstown and the Fish River, it found that the Waterloo Farm area held a number of fossils. Construction was immediately halted and Sanral brought Dr Robert Gess from Rhodes University on board to search out the fossils.
