2018 October CW OFCON THE COVER: In stark contrast to many parts of the world, relatively little of South Africa’s cement usage – just 17% – is from readymix supply, leaving huge potential for the growth of readymix markets. Vital to this growth, however, is customers’ trust in the quality and cost effectiveness of the product.

According to Johan van Wyk, director of the Southern Africa Ready-mix Association (SARMA), the rest of the world consumes some 90% of its cement in readymix, indicating that there is strong confidence in these markets about the readymix offering.

Construction World July 2018ON THE COVER: At the African Construction & Totally Concrete Expo (TCE) in 2016, Scania South Africa partnered with bodybuilder Reimer on a joint stand, while in 2017 it partnered with Liebherr. In 2018 Scania decided to have its own stand to enable the brand to be the champion. This is symbolic of the growth of the Scania range of construction vehicles, now firmly entrenched in the South African construction world.

Construction World June 2018ON THE COVER: Leading construction materials supplier, AfriSam, designed and supplied specialised readymix for the redevelopment of the 100 year old Grain Silo which now houses the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

AfriSam has been supplying materials for the construction of various prominent buildings at the V&A Waterfront for 25 years, and its sponsorship of the concrete for the Zeitz Museum further anchors them in the Western Cape where it is the biggest supplier of readymix and aggregate and the second biggest supplier of cement.

Construction World May 2018ON THE COVER: The recent delivery of four JS305LS tracked excavators by earthmoving equipment specialist, Kemach JCB, has boosted key customer, Lusthof Civil & Plant Hire’s JCB fleet to 26 machines.

The relationship with Kemach JCB began in 2008 when Anton Schonken, founder of Lusthof Civil & Plant Hire, met JCB advisor, Gerhard Riekert and paid a visit to the JCB factory in the United Kingdom. Highly impressed by the professionalism, friendliness and efficiency of the JCB personnel, he decided to purchase his first JCB.
